The Federal Government has advocated state police to effectively tackle current security challenges in the Country.
Vice President professor Yemi Osinbajo Stated this in Abuja at a two day Summit on National Security, by the Senate Adhoc Committee to review current security infrastructure in Nigeria.
He explained that the ever increasing Population of the country demands review of Strategies and policies in the nation’s Security arrangement.
Professor osinbajo also stressed the need for adequate funding of the police to deliver on its mandate.
In an address, the senate President Bukola Saraki emphasised the need for peaceful coexistence in the country.
According to him the Summit was not to apportion blames but to find lasting solution to current security challenges in the country.
The Senate Adhoc Committee chairman on the review of current security infrastructure in Nigeria, senator Ahmed Lawal maintained that the senate would not relent in programmes capable of restoring lasting peace in the country.
Correspondent James Itodo Reports that the Summit was attended by Traditional and Religious leaders , Security Chiefs, Civil Society Organization and Other relevant stakeholders.
