#NSFDW5: Apparels by Pearl wins “Most Promising Designer” at Nigerian Student Fashion & Design Week

Emerging womenswear brand Apparels by Pearl has emerged as the 2017 Winner of the Most Promising Designer Award at the just concluded Nigerian Student Fashion & Design Week 2017.

The brand is creatively directed by Atinuke Animashaun, a Botanical Science graduate of Lagos State University who started fashion designing after secondary education in 2011.

Although it was never her first choice for a career path she grew to love it. Atinuke said:

At first, I never wanted to learn fashion designing, I would have gone for hair styling but mum thought that fashion designing would be good for me since there is a hair stylist in the family and no fashion designer. She got me enrolled into the Lagos state skill acquisition centre in Surulere where I learned fashion designing for a year. It wasn’t easy at first because that wasn’t what I had a passion for but as time went on I got interested and started blending in. Fashion is my third priority after God and family.

Apparels by Pearl showcased her first collection titled Afrik Belle which is inspired by african women and their sense of style to red carpet events. The collection speaks volumes about the glamour characterised by a woman who always wants to stand out in style and be the belle of the event.
